Warhammer Games – More Than Just Table Top Games
Since the first Warhammer Fantasy Battle table top game was formed in 1983 there have been many different Warhammer games in various different styles. Table top Warhammer games are the most popular, but there are also board games in the Warhammer fantasy universe that are especially popular. Role playing games and card games are also in the Warhammer universe, and computer games in the universe are available too.
First, here’s a look at the table top games that are in the Warhammer universe. The first one, Warhammer Fantasy Battle, is the original and still the most popular, but there are other table top games in the Warhammer universe. Warmaster involves massive level gameplay between larger groups of units. Also, there is Mordheim, which is based more on individual battles. Man O’War is the last of the Warhammer games in this format, as this one focuses on naval battles.
There are board games in the Warhammer universe that are also popular. Warhammer Quest is a board game with randomly generated dungeons and monsters that the players must fight. Hero Quest is another of the Warhammer games. This is a game where one player assumes the role of a wizard and chooses a dungeon and randomly placed creates from a listing and challenges the remaining players to complete the objective they have to do. Blood Bowl, which is a Fantasy Football board game in the Warhammer universe, involves players controlling different races of characters as football teams in an ultra-violent variation of the traditional game of football.
This is one role playing game in the Warhammer universe. This is Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. Characters can advance in this game through the career system, which is where characters can improve in skills by advancing in their career paths or even moving to other paths.
The last type of Warhammer games in the Warhammer universe is that of computer games. The first of these Warhammer games was 1995’s Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat. This is a real-time strategy computer game that takes place in the Warhammer universe. A follow-up game, Warhammer: Dark Omen, was released in 1998. In 2006 Warhammer: Mark of Chaos was released, and this game features simplified fight mechanics and uses character advancement techniques similar to what happens in role playing games. An online game, Age of Reckoning, is expected to be released in the early part of 2008.
These are the Warhammer games that take place in the Warhammer fantasy universe. People who aren’t interested in table top games can still get into the Warhammer universe with the great variety of games that are available.
